Lyrics:
Used to be one of the rotten ones and I liked you for that. (x3)Song:
Now you're all gone got your make-up on and you're not coming back.
Can't you come back?
Anthem for a Seventeen-year-old GirlArtist:
Broken Social SceneWhy these lyrics are so great (at least in my opinion):
The song sounds so sweet when you first listen to it, but all that sugar is merely a facade to hide something far more bitter. For that reason it feel so high-school (hence the title). I feel that these lyrics really capture that loss one feels when someone moves on without him/her. I relate to the sentiment of the song, which I think is:
We are in two different places and you are a completely different person and I hope I still cross your mind every now and again. However, I what want nothing to do with the new you and wished that you hadn't changed in the first place.
Lyrics:
So young, so youngSong:
So much pain for someone so young, well
I know it's heavy, I know it ain't light
But how you gonna lift it with your arms folded tight?

Arcade FireWhy these the lyrics are so great:
I enjoy these lyrics for several reasons. The first being their reflective quality, when I read them I picture a man saying them to himself. Secondly, I appreciate their message, that is, do not let stubbornness prevent you from moving past a struggle.Lyric:
And you don't love your girlfriend
You don't love your girlfriend
And you think that you should but she thinks that she's fat
But she isn't but you don't love her anyway
And you don't love your mother
And you know that you should
And you wish that you would
But you don't anyway

If you caught the secondary theme of these lyrics, by now, I applaud you. If you didn't, the secondary theme is the arrogance of youth. I believe this song exemplifies that theme, these lyrics especially. I think in youth.
I lost half of my work at 8:45 am. For this reason I have decided to post what I have. I am very disheartened.
ReplyDeleteAriel, I liked the lyrics you posted, and some of them were not the material I would of particularly expected from you, as you are often not very big in the department of talking about emotions with lyrics. I particularly like the lyrics that you post second, referring to the distance between two people, and how people change. I know what it's like to be at a distance from someone, and be disheartened by them changing. It can truly be a feeling that stops you right in your tracks and baffle you. When people change it can feel good, or it can feel painful, or any other number of emotions... but often what is most noticeable is the striking realization that the person has changed.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite line has to be "...But how you gonna lift it with your arms folded tight?" It makes a very great point about stubbornness and they pull off an metaphor so greatly and clearly. It's a line I can also appreciate because so often when I look around myself at my peers these days I often see people becoming defensive because the world they are in pains them. I like to tell them that you can't afford to live like that. One cannot afford to not cooperate because someone hurts them. You can not spread negative things because negative things have attacked you. You have to live in a way that doesn't just reciprocate negative emotions. If you don't live that way then the world will never be any better by your doing.
In some ways I've seen you exemplify that before, and other times I have seen you act towards the opposite. For example, immediately forgiving someone when they make a mistake on a joint art project, because you recognize that you're both understress and stubbornness will get both of you no where. On the other hand, I've seen you get irritated with people and give up on them entirely.
Good post regardless of your accident.
Ariel, you did a nice job organizing your blog. I like how you picked songs that would inspire the youth as we move on in our lives, as we reach out into the arms of the world on our own. The song. "Anthem for a Seventeen-year-old Girl," really tells us that its okay to move on with change even though some don't like. Sean, you really know Ariel well it seems. You know the attitude she has for her songs.
ReplyDeleteI really like the lyric, "do not let stubbornness prevent you from moving past a struggle," that line really gets to me. Do you let it stick with you, or are you able to move on? I would say that I deal with the problem and move on. It's better to do that, I believe.
Well done, Ariel. You always have great blogs!
